The LNGBunker-5k is a design concept aimed at developing the LNG bunker supply chain, specifically the provision of a small scale Ship-To-Ship LNG transfer capability. It is a self-propelled, highly manoeuvrable vessel for port and coastal operations with relatively low build costs. The hull is optimised for short coastal trips with speed up to 8 knots provided by two azimuth stern thrusters, whilst a pump jet forward provides the essential high manoeuvrability. Total installed power will be less than 2MW from three dual fuel engines, or two engines if combined with the optional battery storage system for optimised energy management. For the LNG, a membrane containment system was chosen for efficient space utilization, good lightship weight and ready scalability for future increases in bunker capacity. The 5000 m3 tank and vessel dimensions are ideal for servicing the requirements of medium sized passenger cruise ships, feeder container ships & PCTC’s whilst also catering for larger numbers of local RoPax ferries and other vessels requiring smaller volumes. The LNG handling and processing equipment, as well as the required maximum transfer rate, can be customised based on a client’s specific operational requirements.
